- Charles “Stretch” Ledford, associate professor of journalism, Alison Davis, senior lecturer of journalism, and Marisa Peacock, senior lecturer of advertising, will discuss their recent trip with students to Accra, Ghana, to film a documentary this Thursday, April 2, from 12-1 p.m., at Coble Hall, Room 306.
Media faculty will share field work from the production in Accra, where Illinois advertising and journalism students collaborated with students from Fourah Bay College in Sierra Leone and the University of Media, Arts and Communication in Ghana to document the lives of the kayayei — young female head porters who have migrated from Ghana’s rural north to work in Accra’s urban markets.
The event is organized by the Illinois Partnership for African Women's Health Narratives (iPAWHN), a collaborative model that partners Illinois journalism and advertising students with their African peers to co-produce solutions-focused transmedia journalism and strategic communication initiatives. Co-sponsored by the Illinois Global Institute and the Center for African Studies.
