Kick off Latine Heritage Month with an evening of live music featuring Puerto Rico’s own Cultura Pesá at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
Led by founder and cuatro player Jomar Santos, Cultura Pesá shares the sounds and traditions of Puerto Rico through bomba, plena, salsa, seis, and aguinaldo. Santos first discovered the cuatro while in high school and later continued developing his musical craft at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Cultura Pesá was created to help connect young people with their cultural heritage and to celebrate Puerto Rican music in a way that brings people together. Come experience an energetic performance that highlights the music, rhythms, and traditions of Puerto Rico while kicking off Latine Heritage Month at Illinois.
This performance is part of the campus-wide Celebrating Latin America & the Caribbean celebration and is jointly sponsored by Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, the Grainger International Student Community, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and La Casa Cultural Latina.
