The Bike Month Planning group is organizing the 18th annual Light the Night, a bike light giveaway event on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 4-7 pm at four locations:
1. Alma Mater Plaza,
2. Hallene Gateway (intersection of Illinois and Lincoln),
3. Ikenberry Commons Quad, and
4. Intersection of Green and Lincoln
Over the past several years, we have installed over 800-1,000 bike light sets every year. Lights will be given out from 4 - 7 pm or until supplies last.
Safety of bicyclists in our campus community is of the highest importance, and as the days grow shorter in the fall and more people are bicycling at night, it is essential to promote safety measures. Illinois Law requires all bicycles to have lights at night, but it does not require that bikes be sold with light sets and many bicycle riders are not aware of the law. This event is meant to improve safety on campus and in the community by providing bike lights to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Attendees are required to bring their bicycles for the free installation. No registration required.
