Join us for an event celebrating the publication of professor Gus Wood's book, "Class Warfare in Black Atlanta: Grassroots Struggles, Resistance, and Repression under Gentrification."

Gus Wood is a PhD graduate of the Department of History, assistant professor in the Labor Education Program of the School of Labor and Employer Relations at the U of I, and a local community activist. His book “Class Warfare in Black Atlanta: Grassroots Struggles, Resistance, and Repression under Gentrification” was published in 2025 by University of North Carolina Press. It critically examines conflict between working class Black neighborhoods and a Black elite intent on remaking Atlanta into a “world class city.” Wood will talk about Atlanta and the contributions his book makes to US history. He’ll be joined by moderators Professors Sundiata Cha-Jua and Stephanie Fortado.
