The development of women’s press in different countries and regions of the world has many stories, experiences, and perspectives. From the earliest typesetters and printers to contemporary publishing houses, women’s press has faced suppression, censorship, violence, and discrimination. Yet it has thrived to produce one of the most prolific publishing cultures in the world.
Through this exhibition, we are selectively highlighting sources and materials from the University of Illinois Library. It is by no means comprehensive in scope, nor does it reflect all the perspectives on women’s press. We aim to foster conversations and scholarly interest in women’s press.
