Join us for an unforgettable weekend of tango with Jesica and Maxi at the 2025 CU Folk and Roots Festival! Enjoy dance workshops, live music, and special performances in Urbana, IL, October 4th and 5th. Everyone is welcome!

Tango with Jesica and Maxi
Dance Workshops 1 and 2
1:30 pm – 4:15 pm
Location: Urbana Dance Company, 122 W Main St, Urbana, IL 61801
Cost per workshop: $35 (at the door) / $30 (preregistration) / $20 (student)

  • 1:30 pm – Fluency (Intermediate/Advanced)
    How to find fluency in the dance, from the continuation of movements, using resources that allow not to interrupt the dance from the interpretation and the mark. Rebounds, alterations, continuation of dissociated and associated movements. We will work with advanced sequences.

  • 3:00 pm – Social Dance (All Levels)
    Resources for social dance, musicality and how to dance in reduced space with complex sequences.

Join internationally renowned bandoneonist Rodrigo Avalos for an intimate concert of solo and chamber music, pulling from traditional and contemporary tango genres.

Milonga @ 2025 CU Folk and Roots Festival

  • 2025 CU Folk and Roots wristband: $50 preregistration, $60 at the door

  • OR $30 (at the door) / $25 (preregistration) / $10 (student, non-dancer)

The 2025 CU Folk and Roots Festival milonga brings together our guest artists, local tango band Bandoneon Massacre, and Midwest guest musicians for a magical night celebrating the beauty and drama of tango music and dance. The milonga features music from DJ and our 18-piece festival orquesta as well as a special live-music dance performance from Jesica Arfenoni and Maximiliano Cristiani. You will not want to miss this one-of-a-kind evening in the enchanting ballroom at Hotel Royer.
