Join us for a screening of Sidney Lumet’s The Wiz (1978). See cultural icons such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and Nipsey Russel follow the yellow brick road in this musical retelling of The Wizard of Oz. While considered a failure upon its release, the film has since developed an enduring and charming legacy, as well as a dedicated cult fan base.

Our Mr. Matsura, a feature documentary film, is the story of photographer Frank Matsura who journeyed from his native Japan to live in rural Washington State in the early 1900s. The film presents a picture of the “frontier” that departs from the existing popular culture narrative and celebrates the singular contribution of a community-building immigrant artist in America.

Join the Cancer Center at Illinois for a screening of "Cracking the Code: Phil Sharp and the Biotech Revolution." The documentary chronicles the life and career of Nobel Laureate and Illinois alumnus, Phil Sharp, who will attend the event. The film is narrated by Mark Ruffalo and part of the PBS Independent Lens documentary series.

The programming will include about two hours of shorts and other activities to celebrate the hard work being done by student filmmakers across the University of Illinois campus.
