Dr. Reynolds-Feighan will present a framework for analyzing air transport industry structures and relationships across space, across airlines and over time. Using detailed global daily airline schedule data, it is shown that the US and European single air transport markets have similar numbers of airports making up the commercial air transport network, but because of geography, history, demographics and economics, the distributions of air transport activities have distinctive differences. These differences are identified and set out with visualizations based on extensive data analysis using the framework. Air transport activities may be analyzed and compared across different dimensions for continental regions, or comparatively for multiple regions utilizing this framework. A variety of summary metrics has been developed to capture indicators at different scales and across the dimensions.
